No matter the angle you look at it — from aesthetics to long-term durability to life cycle cost savings — concrete roofing tiles make good sense. This certainly remains true when considering concrete roofing tiles from a literal angle, say a low-pitched roof of a 6/12 pitch or less. Here best practice calls for 100% ice and water shield protection along with ample soffit and ridge vents, a cold-roof system that allows for free-flowing air beneath the tile. For this angle, we recommend our Legendary Slate or our Legendary Split Timber, the most economical to install as neither requires battens. Both styles create a free-flowing space under the tile for air flow while being installed directly to the deck. Patented Legendary roofing tiles are the only tiles on the market that can save you money while providing this excellent functionality.
The best functional option for low pitched roofing is our elevated batten system utilizing 1”x2” wood battens with ventilated battens connected every ft underneath the batten. This roofing system solution allows air to flow and water to drain. Further, since this system allows the nails penetrating the tile to only enter the batten and not the underlayment there is far less opportunity for ice dam leaks to form through nail holes.
